How did you watch last night’s Bills-Jets game? If you watched it on television then you are so far behind life. Last night, Twitter streamed its first NFL game and it went off rather successfully. Twitter will be live streaming ten Thursday Night Football games this season and people seem to be pleased with the quality of the first game.
Many Twitter users were impressed with the quality of the game that rivaled most HD televisions and the lack of any major glitches that forced fans to miss part of the action. Surprisingly, many fans expressed interest in having Twitter stream other sporting events. The games are available in every country that supports Twitter, except Canada which has its own exclusive rights for the games.
Last year, the NFL partnered with Yahoo to stream its first ever game online. The game which took place in London also featured the Bills, who staged an incredible comeback to beat the Jaguars. The game was met with some fans of the experience, however, there were many flaws that showed it was far from perfect. Many users complained about buffering issues that caused them to miss portions of the game. Many people did not see the need to watch the game online over the traditional way of television.
The difference with Twitter is that fans get talk to one another and the social media also provided exclusive coverage from the sidelines that was not a part of the television broadcast. The NFL should be applauded for their efforts in trying to globalize the game of football. Unfortunately, the league does not seem to understand that people will always find a way to watch football if it is on. Maybe the NFL should focus its efforts on player safety or letting players have some fun on the field. There are children in this world who have never seen a real touchdown celebration! That is a true travesty!
