The battle between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tynes has officially gotten ugly. The former Giants kicker contracted MRSA, a staff infection in his foot. Tynes battle with the infection has been public as he and his wife have updated fans about his condition. Many players, including former teammate Brandon Jacobs, wished Tynes support in his battle to get healthy. The Bucs made the decision to put Tynes on the NFI, non-football injury, list which infuriated Tynes.
“If I drop a 45-pound plate on my foot while lifting weights in the weight room at the facility, it’s IR,” Tynes told FoxSports.com. “So I just don’t understand how my situation is any different. I went to work, I kicked, I practiced, I cold-tubbed, I hot-tubbed, I showered for all those days there. I come up with MRSA, and it’s a non-football injury? They’re basically trying to exonerate themselves of this, and I’m not going to allow it to happen.”
Tynes is concerned that this season will not count towards his retirement position. He plans to fight the Bucs on this matter because he feels that the NRI list is an improper place for him to be. The Bucs will pay Tynes’ base salary which is rare for teams to do for players on the NFI. The Bucs are unsure how Tynes even contacted the infection, but teammate Carl Nicks also had a staff infection. Most importantly, hopefully Tynes can make a full recovery even if he is unable to play in a single game this season.
