After his big win at UFC 205, Conor McGregor became the only fighter in UFC history to hold two titles. Â After knocking out Eddie Alvarez, McGregor became both the UFC lightweight and featherweight champion. Â This is not surprising as UFC president Dana White said that it was inevitable that he would have to give up one title. Â The timing, however, comes after light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suffered an injury.
Cormier was supposed to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 206 on December 10th. Â With the injury, UFC was left scrambling for a way to replace their main even in such a short amount of time. Â The new main event will feature Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis and the winner of that match will face the new featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the future. Â Aldo knocked out McGregor almost a year ago in 13 seconds.
