His head coach may be silent on the issue, but Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has made his opinion public. In an interview with Philadelphia radio station, 94 WIP, Vick admitted that Nick Foles has been playing so well that he has earned the starting job.
“In all honesty, in all fairness, how can you take a guy out of the game who’s been playing so well?” Vick said on 94 WIP. “I’ve been in this stage before, and I know what it’s like. I understand the position that this team is in, and the one thing I never want to do is be a distraction or put our team or our coaches in a position where they feel like they’re not doing the right thing or I feel like they’re not doing the right thing. I trust what’s going on, I enjoy being a part of it, I love the game of football in general. So it’s important to me to be there in support and be ready if my name and number is called again.”
Vick lost the job after injuring his hamstring in a game against the New York Giants. Foles did not play in that game because he was out after suffering a concussion. However, Foles did play the next game and has been on a role. He tied an NFL record with seven touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders. He has also led the Eagles to first place in the NFC East. The Eagles have a bye this week and it is likely the first time Vick will be healthy enough to play.
