This story happens far too often in sports. An athlete gets arrested for allegedly hitting their significant other and then loses their job. This time, Minnesota Vikings A.J. Jefferson was released from the team after being arrested for felony strangulation. His girlfriend called police after getting into a huge fight with Jefferson after a night out together. She alleges that he “grabbed her by her neck” and threw her to the ground. Eden Prairie Police were called to the couple’s home at around 4:30AM.
He is currently being held in jail without bail. He is facing up to three years behind bars if convicted. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman made this statement today, “The fact that we have had three recent off field situations is unacceptable and disappointing. Our organization looks at each situation and the circumstances involved to determine our actions with those players and how to best move forward.” The team has chosen to release Jefferson.
