When the Boston Red Sox signed free agent outfielder J.D. Martinez, their fans were over the moon about their team acquiring such a strong bat and good depth to their lineup. When the New York Yankees acquired Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins, their fans were excited about him batting cleanup following Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. However, on June 23rd, these two teams are back and forth in the battle for the AL East title, and it gets us wondering who exactly will take home the prize.
Despite Martinez having an okay season thus far for Boston, the boys in red have truly become a force to be messed with. Martinez’s teammate, Mookie Betts, has put on a show the first two and a half months of the season and even passed Ted Williams for most three-home run games in Red Sox franchise history! They also have one of the most dominant rotations in baseball with Chris Sale, David Price, and Rick Porcello. Will the boys from Beantown take the crown?
On the other side of things, the Bronx Bombers are putting that nickname to good use. Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton have combined for fifty-one home runs! Shortstop Didi Gregorius has also had an impressive start to his 2018 campaign, the team’s bullpen has been lights out, and Aaron Boone has done an incredible job in his first year of managing the club. Can the New York Yankees win yet another East title?
We still may have three and a half months left of the baseball season, but the AL East title is as close as it gets. The Yankees and Red Sox are as neck-and-neck as it gets, with just small percentage points separating them. Not only is this the best rivalry in sports, but it will be a battle until the very end.
