The Atlanta Falcons are a really good team.  You probably wouldn’t know it because they have some how flown under the radar. However, they are one of the most complete teams in recent memory.  Quarterback Matt Ryan has had a sensational season and was just crowned MVP of the season.  It was not much of a surprise when you look at Ryan’s production this season.  Ryan finished the regular season throwing for 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.  It helps that Ryan is surrounded by one of the best supporting casts in the league.

Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu have elevated both of their games.  Sanu’s presence along with other receivers making plays has helped open up Jones who just happens to be one of the best if not the best receiver in the league.  Jones commented on the work he and his quarterback did before the season started, saying he improved on his deep ball pass.  It wasn’t just through the air that this offense killed opponent, the two-headed monster as they are often known, made a lot of defenses exhausted.  Running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman were able to keep defenses honest and more importantly on the field.  The Falcons finally looked comfortable running Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

It is not just about their dynamic offense.  Vic Beasley led the league in sacks with 15.5 and leads this very young defense.  Beasley made up for his underwhelming rookie season, something he credits Dwight Freeney for.  There are some other veterans besides Freeney sprinkled into this defense who have led this team filled with playmakers.  Second year safety Ricardo Allen already has two interceptions this postseason.  After the bye week, this team really started gelling and showing off how good they can be.

People picking the Patriots will say that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have been here before and know how to take care of business.  This is all true, but the Patriots coasted to the Super Bowl in the playoffs and have not played a team as talented as Atlanta yet.  Ryan has reduced his costly turnovers and this team can attack you in multiple ways.  It is likely that the Patriots will do everything to make Jones a non-factor in this game, but the Falcons have proven they can still win if that happens.  Their defense can cover all of the Patriots’ receivers, especially with top target Rob Gronkowski still being on the sidelines.
