In recent years, the Super Bowl has put two types of teams against each other. One team has all the talent in the world, while the other is a little less talented, but seems to be riding out a wave of destiny. Super Bowl 47 proves to be no different. The San Francisco 49ers are a tough, physical team that doesn’t care about style points. While the Baltimore Ravens are a talented team, but have made it through the playoffs by riding the emotional high of their leader’s retirement announcement. This is not the first time this has happened.
A New England team was looking for revenge against the Giants after they had beaten them just four years ago. The Patriots were the more talented team with the great Tom Brady at quarterback, but the will to win and an amazing ride proved to great for Brady and his bunch to overcome. So, with tomorrow’s game, which is more important, talent or destiny?
Winning a Super Bowl is something that only happens when all the stars align correctly for a certain team. Hence making it seem like destiny will always win over talent, right? Well if you ask the Giants, Packers, or Saints then the answer would be yes. All three teams were underdogs throughout the playoffs, but seemed to always come up with the big plays against the big opponents. So you would think the odds makers would go with the team riding high on emotions, but they have not.
The Ravens are once again underdogs and are out to show that you need more than talent to win something so monumental. Judging by the last few years, being picked as the underdog has worked out well. Is it better to be the team that stays afloat all season and catches fire late and takes that momentum into the playoffs? Or is it better to be consistently dominant all season and use that strength in the playoffs? I guess we will all find out tomorrow.
