The women in drag racing are not only beautiful, but they are also showing the men that this season they mean business. Every weekend they are giving the guys a run for their money and making them earn the win at the end of the day. The four women that are making a statement are Brittany Force, Alexis DeJoria, Megan Meyer, and Courtney Force.
On Friday, Brittany Force broke records at the Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka by running 3.67 seconds during qualifying in her Top Fuel dragster. This not only broke records, but put her in the number 1 spot, taking down Doug Kalitta who had won for two weeks back to back. Force has won twice so far this season with one of those wins making her the first women to win the NHRA four-wide nationals. She won by running a 3.76 seconds at 319.98 miles per hour.
Alexis Dejoria won against Del Worsham in Las Vegas by running 315.49 in 3.968 seconds. The next weekend Dejoria tried to keep her momentum going by being the number one qualifier in Charlotte for the four-wide nationals, but loses in round three of racing. Even though Dejoria has not been in the NHRA long, she is showing she can run with the best of them in funny car racing.
Megan Meyer is barely beginning her career, but this season she has claimed the number two in Top Alcohol Dragster. She has done so by having one win, runner-up twice, and a semifinal during the 2016 season. Meyer obtained her first win during the Charlotte four-wide nationals by going 278.46 miles per hour in 5.325 seconds. This may have been her first win, but Meyer is proving she is capable of winning even more as her career progresses.
Courtney Force received her first win of the season in Baytown, TX by beating Tim Wilkerson in the last round and took down Bob Rode, Ron Capps, and Tommy Johnson Jr. on her way to the win. In 2014, Courtney took the title of most wins by a female driver in NHRA history by defeating Cruz Pedregon in Kansas. Like father like daughter, Force also races a funny car and occasionally had the opportunity to race against her father and sometimes beats her father as well.
All four women are outstanding racers and will continue to pavé a way for women in Drag Racing. They are already encouraging young women and showing them that nothing is impossible even if it is in a male dominated sport. I can not wait to see what the rest of the season holds for these women and I hope they continue to improve in the sport. If you want to watch these women qualifying happens on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, then actual racing happens on Sunday.
